The common 2 euro coin of all eurozone countries in 2015 is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the official adoption of the European Union flag with 12 gold stars on a blue background as a symbol of a united Europe.

## Description

A common 2-euro coin minted by all eurozone countries in 2015 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the EU flag. The flag with 12 golden stars on a blue background was first officially raised in 1985 as a symbol of European unity.

#### Obverse

The standard obverse of the 2-euro coins shows the EU map, the 12 stars of the European Union, the Vantaa mint mark and the year 2015. The Finnish version follows the pan-European design.

#### Obverse

The reverse shows the EU flag — 12 golden stars on a blue background — with the founding year "1985" and "2015". The inscription reflects the thirtieth anniversary of the official flag. The outer ring contains the 12 stars of the EU and the designation of the issuing country.

#### Historical context

The flag with 12 stars was designed in 1955 for the Council of Europe. In 1985, the European Council adopted it as the official symbol of the European Community. The 12 stars symbolize the unity, solidarity and harmony of the peoples of Europe and are independent of the number of member states.
