It depicts a map of Europe as a single continent without internal borders - a symbol of European unity. On the left is a large denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right is a map with six thin horizontal lines in the background. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the European Union. The rim is finely fluted, with the inscription "2 ★" repeated 6 times, alternately upright and inverted.

#### Historical context

Giotto di Bondone (c. 1267 - January 8, 1337) was an Italian painter, sculptor and architect of the Proto-Renaissance, one of the most important artists in the history of Western art. He was born in the village of Colle di Vespignano near Florence to a peasant family. According to Vasari's legend, as a child he drew sheep on stones until he was discovered by Cimabue, who took him to his workshop in Florence. Giotto made a real revolution in Italian painting: he abandoned the flat, schematic Byzantine forms and introduced a realistic depiction of three-dimensional space, human emotions, and natural gestures. Among the most famous works: the frescoes of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua (Cappella degli Scrovegni, 1303-1305) - a cycle of 38 scenes about the lives of Christ and Mary, a masterpiece of world art; the frescoes of the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi (attributed); the frescoes of Santa Croce in Florence; the Campanile (Giotto's Bell Tower) of the Florence Cathedral - designed by Giotto in 1334. He died on January 8, 1337 in Florence. Honored by Dante in the Divine Comedy.
