Commemorative 2 euro coin of the Principality of Andorra, issued in December 2015 in a circulation of 85,000 copies. Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the attainment of majority and the acquisition of political rights by men and women at the age of 18. Bimetallic, diameter 25.75 mm, weight 8.5 g. The author of the design is Orietta Rossi.
Overse
The center of the coin depicts a partial reproduction of a young man dropping a ballot into a ballot box - an action that is possible only upon reaching the age of majority. The inscription "ANDORRA" is visible on the ballot held by the figure. To the left of the figure are the years "1985" and "2015" (the latter is also the year of issue of the coin). Around the image is an abbreviated inscription commemorating the event: "30è ANIVERSARI MAJORIA D'EDAT ALS 18 ANYS" (30th anniversary of coming of age at 18) in Catalan. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse
The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix. A map of Europe without internal borders, on the left is the denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right is a map of the continent. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the EU. On the band is a groove with the inscription "2 ★ ★", repeated six times.
Historical context
In December 1985, the Principality of Andorra implemented a significant reform of its electoral system, granting the right to vote to all native citizens who have reached the age of 18. Before this reform, the age of majority was 25. Lowering the age limit to 18 was an important step towards the democratization of the country, allowing young people to actively participate in the political process. This reform preceded broader democratic transformations that culminated in the adoption of the modern Constitution of Andorra in 1993, which transformed the country into a full-fledged parliamentary constitutional monarchy (with two co-princes - the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell).
