Commemorative coin of the Principality of Andorra, issued in 2017. Dedicated to the official brand "Andorra – El País dels Pirineus" (Andorra - the Pyrenean Country). Bimetallic, diameter 25.75 mm, weight 8.5 g. Minted at the Pessac Mint.
Obverse
The upper part of the design depicts a triangle made up of three wavy stripes - a simplified image of the country's map, representing its mountainous terrain. Inside and next to it are the inscriptions "Andorra" and "EL PAÍS DELS PIRINEUS" (the Pyrenean Country) in Catalan. These three elements make up the brand owned by the Government of Andorra, which is used to give a unified, consistent and coordinated image to all graphic communications of the country and at the same time ensures its unmistakable and instant identification. At the bottom of the design is the year of issue "2017". On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse
The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix. A map of Europe without internal borders, on the left is the denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right is the map. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the EU. On the band is a groove with the inscription "2 ★ ★", repeated six times.
Historical context
The Principality of Andorra is a small state in the heart of the Pyrenees, located between France and Spain. Its unique geographical location determines the historical, cultural and economic identity of the country. The brand "Andorra – El País dels Pirineus" was introduced by the Government of Andorra to present the country internationally as a brand that combines natural, cultural, sporting and touristic values. The Pyrenees are one of the longest mountain systems in Europe, with a length of about 430 km. Due to its location in these mountains, Andorra is known for its ski resorts, natural parks and unique biodiversity, making it one of the leading tourist destinations in the region.
