Obverse

The center of the coin depicts the upper part of the entrance portal of the "Casa de la Vall" - the old building of the Parliament of Andorra in Andorra la Vella. Above the portal is the coat of arms of the country and a fragment of a window. Two compact groups of human faces on either side of the design, like the stones of the building, symbolize the cohesion of the Andorrans as a social community united by history, institutions and values. At the top, in a semicircle, is the inscription "600 ANYS DEL CONSELL DE LA TERRA" (600 years of the Council of the Earth). Below, is the name of the country "ANDORRA" and both dates "1419" and "2019", inscribed in the center of the number "600". On the outer ring, there are 12 stars of the European Union.

Reverse

The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix. A map of Europe without internal borders, on the left, the denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right, a map of the continent. On the outer ring, there are 12 stars of the EU. On the band is a groove with the inscription "2 ★ ★", repeated six times.

Historical context

The Consell de la Terra (Council of the Land) is a representative body created in 1419 by the consent of the two co-princes of Andorra (the Bishop of Urgell and the Count of Foix). It was the first parliament of the Principality and one of the oldest continuously functioning parliamentary bodies in Europe. The Council consisted of representatives of the six parishes of Andorra and was initially concerned with issues of taxation, land use and local government. Later, in 1866, after the "New Reform", the Consell de la Terra became the Consell General de les Valls (General Council of the Valleys), and with the adoption of the 1993 Constitution, it became the modern Consell General (General Council of Andorra). It is currently the country's unicameral parliament.
