Historical context
The Principality of Andorra became the 184th member of the United Nations on 28 July 1993 - four months after the adoption of the Constitution in a national referendum (14 March 1993). Accession to the UN became an important symbol of international recognition of Andorra's sovereignty after the country's transformation from a feudal state to a modern parliamentary co-principality monarchy. Prior to this, Andorra's foreign policy was effectively coordinated by its two co-princes, the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell. Since 1993, Andorra has been a full member of the UN, participating in the work of the General Assembly, specialized agencies, and peacekeeping efforts.
