Obverse

The center of the coin depicts a stylized skier from the era of the formation of alpine skiing in Andorra - in a classic pose on snow-covered slopes. The name of the country "ANDORRA" and the year of issue "2024" are also indicated. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the European Union.

Reverse

The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix. A map of Europe without internal borders, on the left is the denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right is a map of the continent. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the EU. On the band is a groove with the inscription "2 ★ ★", repeated six times.

Historical context

Skiing came to Andorra in the 1920s - the first recorded ski runs in the Principality date back to 1924. Thanks to the unique mountain landscape of the Pyrenees with peaks over 2,900 m and reliable snow cover for 5–6 months a year, Andorra quickly became one of the best ski countries in Europe. The Andorran Ski Federation was founded in 1934, and the first ski lift opened in 1956 in Pas de la Casa. Today, Andorra has two major ski resorts: Grandvalera (the largest in the southern Pyrenees, 210 km of slopes) and Vallée Nord (Pal-Arinsal, 98 km of slopes). Ski tourism is a significant part of the country's economy.
