Obverse
The center of the coin depicts various sports elements - balls from different sports, stylized nets in the background. All elements in a dynamic style, radiating movement and energy. The background has curved lines reminiscent of a stadium or a running track, emphasizing the effect of movement. At the top is the inscription "Jocs dels Petits Estats d'Europa" (Games of the Small States of Europe) in Catalan, and below it is the name of the country "ANDORRA 2025". The design includes five stylized Olympic rings - a symbol of sport. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse
The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix. A map of Europe without internal borders, on the left is the denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right is a map of the continent. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the EU. On the band is a groove with the inscription "2 ★ ★", repeated six times.
Historical context
The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) is a biennial multi-sport event that brings together nine small European states with a population of less than one million: Andorra, Cyprus, Montenegro, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and San Marino. The Games have been held every two years since 1985 - the first ones were held in San Marino. The competitions are organized under the auspices of the National Olympic Committees of these states. Andorra hosted these Games in 1991, 2005 and 2025. The XIX Games of the Small States of Europe were held in Andorra from 26 to 31 May 2025, with hundreds of athletes from nine countries competing in various disciplines, including athletics, swimming, cycling, shooting, tennis and others.
