Description

Commemorative coin of the Kingdom of Belgium, issued on May 25, 2016, with a circulation of 1 million copies, of which 200,000 were intended for collectors. Dedicated to the Child Focus Foundation. Bimetallic, diameter 25.75 mm, weight 8.5 g.

Obverse

The center of the coin depicts a detailed portrait of a child's face - Liam Vanden Branden, a boy who disappeared at the age of 2.5 years in 1996 and was never found. At the top, in a semicircle, is the inscription "BELGIE-BELGIQUE-BELGIEN", on both sides are signs: on the left - the head of the archangel Michael (symbol of the Brussels Mint), on the right - a cat (symbol of the Mint Director Bernard Gillard). In the lower left part along the edge is the inscription "MISSING-DISPARU-VERMIST" (disappeared - in the three languages ​​of Belgium), in the lower right part is the website address "WWW.CHILDFOCUS.BE". Year of issue "2016". On the outer ring - the 12 stars of the European Union.

Reverse

Child Focus is a Belgian charitable foundation founded in 1998 to help find missing children and combat the sexual exploitation of minors. The foundation works in close cooperation with the police, judicial authorities and international partners. International Missing Children's Day is celebrated on May 25, an initiative launched in 1982 in the United States after the disappearance of six-year-old Ethan Patz in New York. Liam Vanden Branden, depicted on the coin, disappeared in 1996 in Belgium when he was 2.5 years old - his fate is still unknown. The coin was intended to raise public awareness of the problem of missing children and to support the work of the Child Focus Foundation.
