Historical context
The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is one of the oldest and most prestigious motorsports circuits in the world, located near the cities of Spa and Francorchamps in the province of Liège, Belgian Ardennes. The first circuit was created in 1921 on public roads, and the modern configuration was installed in 1979. The circuit is 7.004 km long - one of the longest on the Formula 1 calendar. It is famous for the legendary Eau Rouge-Raidillon section - a steep climb, which is considered one of the most exciting in world motorsport. The track has hosted the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix since 1950 (with interruptions), the 24 Hours of Spa (a sports car race), the Belgian MotoGP Grand Prix and many other events. It is an integral part of Belgium's sporting and cultural heritage.
