The reverse depicts stylized silhouettes of a man and a woman, symbolizing equal suffrage. The inscription "SUOMI FINLAND", the year "2006" and "100 VUOTTA" (100 years) are present. Along the outer ring are the 12 stars of the EU. Designed by Raaimo Heikkinen.
Historical context
In 1906, the Finnish Diet passed a reform of the electoral system, giving all citizens over the age of 24, regardless of gender or wealth, the right to vote. Finland was decades ahead of most European countries: in Great Britain, women only gained the right to vote in 1918–1928.
