The 2 euro coin was minted by Finland in 2014 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ilmari Tapiovaara (1914–1999), one of the most prominent Finnish designers, whose furniture solutions have become classics of Scandinavian functionalism.

The standard obverse of the 2 euro coin features a map of the EU, 12 stars of the European Union, the Vantaa mint mark, and the year 2014.

The reverse features the silhouette of Tapiovaara's famous Domus chair, a symbol of his design heritage. The inscription "ILMARI TAPIOVAARA", "SUOMI FINLAND 2014" and the 12 stars of the EU complete the composition.

Ilmari Tapiovaara was born on September 22, 1914. Educated in Helsinki and Paris, he designed dozens of iconic furniture pieces - including the Domus chairs (1946) and Fanett. His philosophy combined aesthetics with accessibility and functionality. Tapiovaara taught in the United States and Finland, leaving a deep mark on the world of industrial design.
