Obverse
The standard obverse of the 2 euro coin features a map of the EU, 12 stars of the European Union, the Vantaa mint mark, and the year 2016.
Reverse
The reverse features a portrait of Georg Henrik von Wright with the inscriptions "GEORG HENRIK VON WRIGHT", "SUOMI FINLAND 2016" and the 12 stars of the EU around the outer ring.
Historical context
Georg Henrik von Wright was born on 14 June 1916 in Helsinki. He took up the Wittgenstein Chair at Cambridge in 1948 and became one of the leading figures in analytic philosophy. His most famous contribution is the development of deontic logic (the logic of norms and duties). He is also known for his work on the philosophy of action and the study of science. He died in 2003.
