The 2 euro coin was minted by Finland in 2019 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the country's Constitution, adopted in 1919. The Constitution laid the democratic foundations of the young republic after the declaration of independence in 1917.

The reverse depicts a stylized law book with the inscription "PERUSTUSLAKI 100" (Constitution, 100 years), symbolizing the rule of law. The inscription "SUOMI FINLAND 2019" and the 12 EU stars complete the design.
Historical context
The Constitution of Finland was adopted on July 17, 1919, less than two years after the declaration of independence. The document established a parliamentary-presidential republic and guaranteed the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens. In 2000, the Constitution was updated, strengthening human rights and parliamentarism. It remains the foundation of Finnish democracy.
