The 2 euro coin was minted by Finland in 2020 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the University of Turku (Turun yliopisto), founded in 1920. It is the first university in Finland where the official language of instruction was Finnish, not Swedish.

The reverse depicts the main building of the University of Turku, a classicist building from the 19th century. The inscription "TURUN YLIOPISTO 100", "SUOMI FINLAND 2020" and the 12 EU stars decorate the coin.
Historical context
The University of Turku was founded in 1920 through a citizen initiative and private donations as the first Finnish-speaking university. Today, it is one of Finland's leading research universities with over 25,000 students. The university has made a significant contribution to the development of Finnish science, culture and society over the course of a century.
