The 2 euro coin was minted by Finland in 2026 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Yleisradio (Yle), the Finnish Public Broadcasting Corporation. Since 1926, Yle has been the main source of independent information and cultural content for Finns.
Obverse
The standard obverse of the 2 euro coin: a map of the EU, the 12 stars of the European Union, the Vantaa mint mark and the year 2026.
Reverse
The reverse depicts a microphone or radio wave, a symbol of broadcasting and public communication. The inscription "YLEISRADIO 100", "SUOMI FINLAND 2026" and the 12 EU stars complete the design.
Historical context
Yleisradio was founded in 1926 as a private company, which became public in 1934. Yle operates television, radio and online broadcasting in Finnish, Swedish and other languages. The company played a key role during World War II, broadcasting front-line reports. Today, Yle is an independent public media company, financed by the state media tax.
