A common 2-euro coin minted by France together with all eurozone countries in 2015 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the EU flag. The French version has the standard obverse with Marianne.
Obverse
The French obverse features Marianne, the inscription "RF" and the Paris mint mark. The year of minting is 2015.
Reverse
The common reverse depicts the EU flag - 12 stars on a blue background - with the inscriptions "1985" and "2015". On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the EU and the designation of the issuing country.
Historical context
The flag with 12 stars was adopted by the Council of Europe in 1955, and officially by the European Community in 1985. The 12 stars do not depend on the number of states and symbolize unity, perfection and harmony. The flag is the most recognizable symbol of the EU along with the anthem "Ode to Joy".
