The 2 euro coin was minted by France in 2023 as part of the Paris 2024 Olympic series, featuring the image of the Sower. This is the second minting of this design (the first was in 2021).
Obverse
The French obverse features the image of Marianne, the inscription "RF" and the Paris Mint mark. The year of minting is 2023.
Reverse
The reverse is identical to the 2021 coin: the Sower with the Olympic rings and the inscription "PARIS 2024 — LA SEMEUSE". On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the EU and the year "2023".
Historical context
The "Sower" as an image of French coins appeared in 1897 thanks to the medalist Oscar Roth. The allegorical woman sowing the grain symbolizes progress and hope. The combination with the spirit of the 2024 Olympics in Paris makes this coin a symbol of the future.
