Historical context
Tomislav (c. 879–928) was the first Croatian king, crowned c. 925 by Pope John X. He united Maritime and Pannonian Croatia into a single state, stopping Magyar raids and Bulgarian expansion. The Croatian Kingdom under Tomislav encompassed a significant part of modern Croatia and Bosnia. May 30 — Croatian Statehood Day — is associated with his legacy.
