A 2 euro commemorative coin of the Republic of Lithuania, issued in 2023 in a circulation of 500,000 copies. Dedicated to supporting Ukraine. It was minted at the Lithuanian Mint in Vilnius. Bimetallic, diameter 25.75 mm, weight 8.5 g.
Obverse
The center of the coin depicts a stylized composition symbolizing Lithuania's solidarity with Ukraine - possibly two hearts connected into one, Lithuanian and Ukrainian motifs together. Around the image are the inscriptions "TOGETHER WITH UKRAINE" or in Lithuanian "KARTU SU UKRAINA" (Together with Ukraine). Below - the name of the issuing country "LIETUVA", the year of issue "2023" and the Lithuanian Mint mark "LMK". On the outer ring are 12 five-pointed EU stars.
Reverse
The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix (Royal Belgian Mint). It depicts a map of Europe as a single continent without internal borders - a symbol of European unity. On the left - a large denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right - a map with six thin horizontal lines in the background. On the outer ring - 12 stars of the European Union. The band - with thin ribbing and the Lithuanian inscription "LAISVĖ ★ VIENYBĖ ★ GEROVĖ ★" (Freedom, Unity, Prosperity).
Historical context
Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, is the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II. Lithuania is one of the largest donor countries to Ukraine in terms of GDP: it has transferred thousands of air defense systems, ammunition, armored vehicles, medical aid, and accepted thousands of Ukrainian refugees. The Lithuanian people demonstrate exceptional solidarity: volunteer fundraising for Ukraine has become a mass phenomenon. A well-known example is the fundraising by Lithuanian citizens for the purchase of the Turkish Bayraktar drone for Ukraine in 2022 (5.9 million euros were raised in 3.5 days). In 2023, Lithuania, together with Estonia and Poland, took the initiative to create the so-called "Lithuanian Border Belt" to strengthen NATO's eastern flank. President Gitanas Nauseda is one of the most active defenders of Ukraine at the international level. The "Together with Ukraine" coin is a symbol of people's solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
