Historical context
Prince Charles Jean Philippe Joseph Marie Guillaume of Nassau-Weilburg (born 10 May 2020) is the eldest son of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie de Lonois. He was born at the Maternité Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in Luxembourg. At the time of his birth, he was second in line to the throne after his father, and from 3 October 2025, after the abdication of Grand Duke Henri and the accession of Guillaume V, he became Hereditary Grand Duke - first in line to the throne. Baptized in the chapel of Berg Castle on 19 September 2020, his godfather was his uncle Prince Felix. The name "Charles" refers to a strong tradition in the Luxembourg royal family (predecessor - Prince Charles 1927-1977, son of Charlotte). The birth of the prince is a major event for the country, ensuring the continuity of the Nassau-Weilburg dynasty.
