Reverse
The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix (Royal Belgian Mint). It depicts a map of Europe as a single continent without internal borders - a symbol of European unity. Konrad Adolf Adenauer (Konrad Hermann Joseph Adenauer, January 5, 1876 - April 19, 1967) was a German statesman, the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from September 15, 1949 to October 16, 1963, a founding father of post-war democratic Germany. Born in Cologne. Before World War II, he was the Lord Mayor of Cologne (1917-1933), President of the Prussian State Council. In 1933, he was released by the Nazis, persecuted (imprisoned twice). After the war, he was one of the founders of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). In 1949, the first chancellor of the newly formed Federal Republic of Germany — at the age of 73. His chancellorship (14 years) — the period of the "Economic Miracle" (Wirtschaftswunder), the entry of the Federal Republic of Germany into NATO (1955), the creation of the European Communities (1957 — signed the Treaty of Rome), the Élysée Treaty with France (1963 — a symbol of reconciliation).
