Family farming is the predominant form of agricultural production in the world: about 500 million families are engaged in it, producing up to 80% of the food in many countries. In Portugal, family farming is the traditional basis of the rural economy, especially in Alentejo, Beira, Trás uz Montes. About 80% of agricultural enterprises in Portugal are family farms.
