The band is finely fluted and inscribed with five shields alternating with seven locks, motifs of the Portuguese coat of arms.

Historical context

The Ponte 25 de Abril (April 25 Bridge) is a suspension bridge across the Tagus River in Lisbon, connecting the Portuguese capital with the municipality of Almada on the south bank. Construction began in 1962 by the American American Bridge Company and was completed on August 6, 1966. It was originally named "Ponte Salazar" in honor of dictator António de Oliveira Salazar. After the Carnation Revolution of 25 April 1974, it was renamed "Ponte 25 de Abril" in honor of the revolution. Length — 2,277.64 m, main span — 1,012.88 m, height above water — 70 m. Suspension bridge with two pylons 190 m high, reminiscent of San Francisco's Golden Gate (especially the red color), although it was actually designed separately. In 1999, a railway level was added below the automobile level for trains of the Lisbon metro. One of the most famous symbols of Lisbon, an important transport artery of the country.
