Description

A 2 euro commemorative coin of the Republic of San Marino, issued in 2009 in a circulation of 130,000 copies. Dedicated to the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. Minted at IPZS, Rome. Bimetallic, diameter 25.75 mm, weight 8.5 g.

Overse

The center of the coin depicts a stylized composition - human figures symbolizing creativity and science: possibly a figure of Einstein or Leonardo da Vinci, with elements of scientific and artistic symbols. Above - "ANNO EUROPEO DELLA CREATIVITÀ E DELL'INNOVAZIONE", below - "San Marino 2009". Mark "R". On the outer ring are the 12 five-pointed stars of the EU.

Reverse

The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix (Royal Belgian Mint). It depicts a map of Europe as a single continent without internal borders - a symbol of European unity. On the left is a large denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right is a map with six thin horizontal lines in the background. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the European Union. The band is finely grooved, with the inscription "2 ★" repeated 6 times, alternately upright and inverted.

Historical context

The European Year of Creativity and Innovation (EYCI 2009) is an initiative of the European Union, proclaimed in 2009 to promote creativity and the ability to innovate as key competences that contribute to personal, social and economic development. The aim of the year was to emphasize the importance of creativity in a broad sense - not only in art, but also in science, education, business, everyday life. Numerous events were held in all 27 EU countries during the year: educational programs in schools and universities, creative ideas competitions, exhibitions, entrepreneurship conferences. The slogan is "Imagine. Create. Innovate". Special attention was paid to creative industries (fashion, design, architecture, cinema), startups, close ties between education and business. European creative leaders signed the Manifesto for the European Year of Creativity. San Marino, although not a member of the EU, traditionally issues coins on European themes. The issue of 130,000 is typical for San Marino.
