It depicts a map of Europe as a single continent without internal borders - a symbol of European unity. Historical context
Albrecht Dürer (May 21, 1471 - April 6, 1528) - the most prominent German artist, graphic artist, art theorist of the Northern Renaissance. Born in Nuremberg, the third of 18 children in the family of a jeweler of Hungarian origin. A student of Michael Wolgemuth, then traveled around Europe - he went to Italy twice (1494-1495, 1505-1507). Dürer is primarily a graphic genius: he created hundreds of woodcuts and copper engravings with technical virtuosity. Among the famous works: "Apocalypse" (series of woodcuts 1498), "Master Engravings" - "Knight, Death and the Devil" (1513), "Saint Jerome in the Cell" (1514), "Melancholy I" (1514) - a philosophical masterpiece with many symbols. Painting: "Adoration of the Three Magi" (1504), "Four Apostles" (1526), numerous self-portraits. Theoretical treatises on the proportions of the human body, geometry. Died April 6, 1528 in Nuremberg.
