A 2 euro commemorative coin of the Slovak Republic, issued in 2020 in a circulation of 1,000,000 copies. Dedicated to the 20th anniversary of joining the OECD. It was minted at Mincovňa Kremnica. Bimetallic, diameter 25.75 mm, weight 8.5 g.
Obverse
The center of the coin depicts a stylized composition of Slovak industrial and economic symbols - characteristic gears, graphs with lines moving around them. At the top - "20. VÝROČIE VSTUPU SR DO OECD", at the bottom - "SLOVENSKO" with the dates "2000-2020". Mark of the Kremnica Mint. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the EU.
Reverse
The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix (Royal Belgian Mint). It depicts a map of Europe as a single continent without internal borders - a symbol of European unity. On the left is a large denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right is a map with six thin horizontal lines. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the European Union. The band is finely fluted and bears the inscription "SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA" with two linden leaves.
Historical context
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international organisation of developed countries with market economies, founded on 14 December 1960 in Paris (on the basis of the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation, OEEC, which had existed since 1948 to manage the Marshall Plan). Today, the OECD has 38 member countries, mainly from Europe, North America, Asia and the Pacific. Its headquarters are in Paris (Château de la Muette). The OECD's goal is to promote policies that improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world: economic growth, financial stability, government transparency, the fight against corruption, effective education, and environmental protection. Slovakia joined the OECD on 28 September 2000 as the 30th member country. This was a recognition of the market and democratic reforms that followed independence in 1993.
