2 euro commemorative coin of the Republic of Slovenia, issued in 2011 in a circulation of 400,000 copies. Dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Franz Rozman-Stané. Minted at the Royal Netherlands Mint. Bimetallic, diameter 25.75 mm, weight 8.5 g.
Obverse
The center of the coin depicts a stylized profile of Franz Rozman-Stané in partisan uniform. Above — «FRANC ROZMAN STANE», below — «SLOVENIJA» with the dates «1911-2011». Utrecht Mint mark. On the outer ring are the 12 five-pointed stars of the EU.
Reverse
The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix (Royal Belgian Mint). It depicts a map of Europe as a single continent without internal borders - a symbol of European unity. On the left is a large denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right is a map with six thin horizontal lines. On the outer ring are the 12 stars of the European Union. The band is with fine ribbing and the inscription "SLOVENIJA ★", repeated.
Historical context
Franc Rozman (battle name Stane, March 27, 1911 - November 7, 1944) was a Slovenian communist, partisan commander, lieutenant general of the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army, national hero of Yugoslavia (posthumously, 1953). He was born in Spodnja Šiški (now part of Ljubljana). As a communist, he participated in the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939 on the side of the Republic. After the start of World War II and the Nazi invasion of Yugoslavia (April 1941), he became one of the key organizers of the partisan movement in Slovenia. He led the Slovenian Partisan Corps and led numerous operations. He became famous for commanding the Dolenjska Corps and the Battle of Dražgoš (January 1942). On November 7, 1944, he died from an accidental mortar explosion during a weapons display in the village of Lokve in the Goriška region. He was buried in Ljubljana. He is depicted in many monuments in Slovenia, and streets, schools, and barracks are named in his honor.
