Obverse
The center of the coin depicts a stylized profile of Adam Bohorič along with a fragment of the title page of his grammar. At the top — "ADAM BOHORIČ", at the bottom — "SLOVENIJA" with the dates "1520-2020". Utrecht Mint mark. On the outer ring are 12 five-pointed EU stars.
Reverse
The reverse is the common side of the 2 euro coins of the second type, designed by Luc Luix (Royal Belgian Mint). It depicts a map of Europe as a single continent without internal borders - a symbol of European unity. On the left - a large denomination "2" and the inscription "EURO", on the right - a map with six thin horizontal lines. On the outer ring - 12 stars of the European Union. The edge - with thin ribbing and the inscription "SLOVENIJA ★", repeated.
Historical context
Adam Bohorič (c. 1520 - 20 November 1598) - Slovenian Protestant grammarian, linguist, teacher, school reformer, author of the first Slovenian grammar. Born in Bryčy. He was educated in Wittenberg (Germany), where he studied with Philip Melanchthon. In 1565 he became rector of the Latin School in Ljubljana, where he carried out an educational reform - he introduced teaching in the Slovene language along with Latin and German. His most outstanding work is "Arcticae horulae succisivae de Latino Carniolana literatura" ("Winter Leisure Hours on Latin Carniolian Literature", 1584) - the first scientific grammar of the Slovene language, written in Latin. It systematizes Slovene grammar, orthography ("bohoričica" - a transliteration system used until the 19th century). Bohorič also participated in the translation of the Bible into Slovene (Jurij Dalmatin, 1584). He died on November 20, 1598 in Ljubljana from the plague.
