The commemorative coin conveys the idea of the issue through symbols, relief and expressive composition, which is pleasant to look at. The plot and design details emphasize the theme: dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of a talented Ukrainian writer-innovator, an unsurpassed master of the expressionist short story, poet, public figure and politician.
Obverse
The obverse is built as a holistic scenography, where state symbols are combined with images of the issue theme. Inscriptions: UKRAINE (above the portrait), denomination – 2 (on the right side), HRYVNI (in an arc on the right side), VASYL STEFANIK 1871–1936 (in an arc below) in the center – a stylized composition: against the background of a village house window – a portrait of Vasyl Stefanyk, on the right side of which – a spikelet symbolizing a writer’s pen, the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (on the right side between the inscriptions). On the obverse of the coin are noticeable: in the upper part – a small State Emblem of Ukraine, on both sides of which – 2021. Careful relief and balance of the fields add to the product a collector’s expressiveness. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The trademark of the NBU Mint emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse is the central story of the coin: the symbols are arranged so that the plot "comes to life" under different angles of light. The reverse of the coin shows a lonely figure of a person who has set out on a long journey on a mirror surface, in the foreground is a stone cross, on the right and left sides of which are spikelets, and on both sides of the figure are stylized birds. The careful relief and balance of the fields add to the product a collector's expressiveness. In the texture of the field, there are noticeable transitions of relief: from thin strokes to deeper areas that beautifully catch the light when the coin is turned.
Historical context
The plot of the coin is tied to an event or image that is important for Ukrainian memory. Such releases become small "time capsules": they preserve the emotion of the moment, a cultural sign and recognizable symbolism for future generations.
