The coin is dedicated to a figure whose work has become a part of Ukrainian culture and a recognizable sign of the era. The plot and design details emphasize the theme: dedicated to the Ukrainian opera and chamber singer (lyrical-dramatic soprano) Solomiya Amvrosiivna Krushelnytska. “unforgettable”, “unsurpassed”, “unique”, “unique in the world”.
Obverse
The obverse is built as a holistic scenography, where state symbols are combined with images of the issue theme. The obverse of the coin features: in the center – an image of Solomiya Krushelnytska in the stage image of Aida, on both sides of which are stylized scenes decorated with decorative ornaments, on the left side – the small State Emblem of Ukraine, the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (on the right side, above the year of minting the coin), the inscriptions: UKRAINE (in the upper part, against the background of the decorative ornament), 2022 (on the right side), TWO GRIVNS (below). The portrait relief and decorative elements work as a business card of the era and talent of the hero of the coin. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The corporate emblem of the Banknote and Mint of the NBU emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse is the central story of the coin: the symbols are arranged so that the plot "comes to life" under different angles of light. The reverse of the coin shows a portrait of Solomiya Krushelnytska on a mirror surface, on the right side of which is a stylized butterfly wing, symbolizing one of the singer's most famous images in the opera "Madame Butterfly", on the left side are the inscriptions: 1872/1952 (years of the singer's life), SOLOMIYA KRUSHELNYTSKÓ (in an arc). The portrait relief and decorative elements act as a calling card of the era and talent of the coin's hero. The texture of the field shows noticeable relief transitions: from thin strokes to deeper areas that beautifully catch the light when the coin is turned.
Historical context
Solomiya Krushelnytska is a world-class opera diva, who was called one of the best singers of her time. Her triumphs on the leading stages of Europe and America, as well as the popularization of Ukrainian music, made Krushelnytska's name a cultural brand of Ukraine.
