The coin is dedicated to a figure whose work has become a part of Ukrainian culture and a recognizable sign of the era. The plot and design details emphasize the theme: it is dedicated to an outstanding Ukrainian composer who left an unforgettable mark on the musical heritage of our country. Igor Shamo is the author of numerous symphonies, chamber works and songs.
Overse
The obverse side is built as a holistic scenography, where state symbols are combined with images of the issue theme. Below on the mirror surface are visible: a musical staff with a recording of Igor Shamo's musical work, a denomination of 2 with a graphic symbol of the hryvnia and the year of minting - 2025, at the bottom on the right side is the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine. The obverse of the coin shows a stylized composition of picturesque landscapes, iconic buildings and monuments of the city of Kyiv, framed by chestnut leaves - a symbolic business card of the capital. In the center at the top is the small State Emblem of Ukraine and the inscription UKRAINE (the dots above the letter “э” are shown in the form of hearts). The portrait relief and decorative elements work as a business card of the era and talent of the hero of the coin. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The corporate emblem of the NBU Banknote and Mint emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse is the central story of the coin: the symbols are arranged so that the plot “comes to life” under different angles of light. Below the portrait, a musical staff is visible, symbolizing the composer’s musical heritage. The composition of the reverse is completed by images and silhouettes of chestnut leaves, which emphasize the inextricable connection of the maestro with Kyiv. The reverse of the coin shows a stylized portrait of Igor Shamo, who is contemplating the creation of a new musical masterpiece. On the left side of the portrait, the inscriptions IGOR / SHAMO and the years of the artist's life 1925–1982 are vertically indicated. The portrait relief and decorative elements act as a calling card of the era and talent of the coin's hero. The texture of the field shows noticeable relief transitions: from thin strokes to deeper areas that beautifully catch the light when the coin is turned.
Historical context
Igor Shamo is a composer whose music is associated with Kyiv and the warmth of the city. The song "How can I not love you, my Kyiv!" became the unofficial heart of the capital, and Shamo's work combined the academic school and a melody close to every listener.
