The commemorative coin conveys the idea of the issue through symbols, relief and expressive composition, which is pleasant to look at. The plot and details of the design emphasize the theme: dedicated to the Ukrainian secret organization that emerged in Kyiv at the end of 1845, which was one of the manifestations of the rise of the national movement and the activation of the Pan-Slavic movement.
Obverse
The obverse side is built as a holistic scenography, where state symbols are combined with images of the issue theme. Under the coat of arms is the coin's denomination 5/HRYVEN. The obverse of the coin shows: in the upper part on the mirror surface – a small State Emblem of Ukraine, on both sides of which – 2020, above the emblem – the inscription UKRAINE, inscriptions on a matte field: BOOKS/ BEING/ OF THE UKRAINIAN/ PEOPLE (on the left side), STATUTE/ OF THE SLAVIC/ BROTHERHOOD/ OF ST. CYRIL/ AND METHOD (on the right side) on both sides of the emblem and inscriptions – stylized shoots with leaves, the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (below). The careful relief and balance of the fields add to the product a collector's expressiveness. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The company logo of the NBU Banknote and Mint emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse is dominated by a thematic motif, complemented by inscriptions and details that emphasize the idea of the issue. Inscriptions: CYRIL-METHODIYVSKE TOVARYSTVO (in the upper part in an arc), 175/ROKIV (above the portraits), TARAS SHEVCHENKO (under the portrait of T. Shevchenko), MYKOLA KOSTOMAROV (under the portrait of M. Kostomarov). The reverse of the coin shows portraits of the members of the society on the mirror surface: T. Shevchenko (on the left side), M. Kulish), "YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE" (in an arc above the seal impression) Kulish (on the right side), below – the impression of Kostomarov's wax seal), PANTELEIMON KULISH (under the portrait of P. Kulish). The careful relief and balance of the fields add to the product a collector's expressiveness. In the texture of the field, there are noticeable transitions of relief: from thin strokes to deeper areas that beautifully catch the light when the coin is turned.
Historical context
The plot of the coin is tied to an event or image that is important for Ukrainian memory. Such issues become small "time capsules": they preserve the emotion of the moment, a cultural sign and recognizable symbolism for future generations. It will be a suitable gift and a warm accent to the collection. It fits well with the collection and looks festive in the case.
