The commemorative coin conveys the idea of the issue through symbols, relief and expressive composition, which is pleasant to look at. The plot and design details emphasize the theme: dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the tragedy that occurred in the Babyn Yar tract in Kyiv during World War II. From September 1941 to the end of September 1943, it was a place of executions.
Obverse
On the obverse, the composition is readable at first glance: the official attributes of the state and the details of the plot work as a single whole. In the center, against the background of concentric circles resembling a target and a fragment of the topographical image of Babyn Yar resembling streams of blood, there is a stylized composition - a heart pierced by a bullet. The obverse of the coin is clearly visible: the small State Emblem of Ukraine (on the right side), under which the vertical inscription at an angle UKRAINE, the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (in the upper part on the left side), on the left side the denomination - 5 HRYVENS (vertically at an angle) inscriptions: BABYN YAR 1941 (in the upper part in an arc), the year of minting the coin 2021 (below). The careful relief and balance of the fields add to the product a collector's expressiveness. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The trademark of the NBU Mint emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse side reveals the main image of the issue in expressive relief and multi-layered composition. The reverse of the coin shows an artistic composition reflecting the tragedy of Babyn Yar - anthropomorphic figures that supposedly lie underground and personify the executed families, and in the upper part the inscription is clearly visible: 80-ТИ РОКОВИНЫ/ТРАГЕДИЙ В БАБЫНОМ ЯРУ. The careful relief and balance of the fields add to the product a collector's expressiveness. In the texture of the field, there are noticeable transitions of relief: from thin strokes to deeper areas that beautifully catch the light when the coin is turned.
Historical context
The plot of the coin is tied to an event or image that is important for Ukrainian memory. Such releases become small "time capsules": they preserve the emotion of the moment, a cultural sign and recognizable symbolism for future generations. It will be an appropriate gift and a warm accent of the collection. It fits well with the collection and looks festive in the case.
