The coin captures a historic step on Ukraine's European path and preserves it in metal as a sign of hope. The plot and design details emphasize the theme: the commemorative coin is dedicated to granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for accession to the EU. Obtaining such status is one of the important results of our many years of European integration.
Obverse
The obverse presents the theme through a combination of state symbols, inscriptions and a finely crafted relief. The year of minting the coins is 2022 and the inscription – RETURNING HOME (below) the denomination is 5 and the graphic symbol of the hryvnia (on both coins) on the European continent the contours of Ukraine are highlighted, which, like a puzzle, complements the integrity of Europe and “returns” home, where it has always been indirectly present, starting with the dynastic ties of the Kyivan state on the right side: the small State Emblem of Ukraine and the inscription UKRAINE (in an arc) the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (under the map of Ukraine). On the obverse of the coin on the mirror surface is noticeable: a stylized image of the European continent, on the left side of which there is a decorative element in the form of a mosaic decor, symbolizing the diversity of peoples, cultures, the freedom to choose one’s own destiny, the absence of formal borders European symbolism is delicately integrated, and the plot conveys a sense of a historical step and hope. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The corporate emblem of the NBU Banknote and Mint emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse side reveals the main image of the issue in expressive relief and multi-layered composition. On the reverse of the coin, against the background of stylized tridents, a map of Ukraine is visible, decorated with a stylized national embroidery ornament, framed by twelve stars symbolizing the peoples of Europe in unity, and the inscription in a circle: GRANTING THE STATUS OF A CANDIDATE COUNTRY FOR EU MEMBERSHIP European symbolism is delicately integrated, and the plot conveys a sense of a historical step and hope. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The texture of the field shows noticeable relief transitions: from thin strokes to deeper areas that catch the light beautifully when the coin is turned.
