The coin captures a historic step on Ukraine's European path and preserves it in metal as a sign of hope. The plot and design details emphasize the theme: the commemorative coin is dedicated to the national unity of Ukrainians in the fight against the Russian aggressor and the international support that the whole world provides to Ukraine, bringing a common victory closer.
Obverse
The obverse is built as a holistic scenography, where state symbols are combined with images of the issue theme. On the obverse of the coin on the mirror surface, the following are visible: the small State Emblem of Ukraine (in the center), around which is shown a stylized symbolic composition of the unity of people of goodwill around the world - hands joined in pairs, closed in a circle and wrapped in a blue-yellow ribbon (pad printing was used); on the right side, the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine; the inscriptions: UKRAINE (in the upper part in an arc), the year of minting of the coins - 2022 (on the left side); at the bottom, the denomination is indicated in an arc - 5 HRYVENĚ. European symbolism is delicately integrated, and the plot conveys a sense of historical step and hope. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The trademark of the NBU Banknote and Mint emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse is dominated by a thematic motif, complemented by inscriptions and details that emphasize the idea of the issue. On the reverse of the coin on the mirror surface, the following is noticeable: in the upper part, in an arc, the inscription in two languages В ЕДНОСТИ – СИЛА/IN UNITY STRENGTH, under which is a stylized composition of colored flags (pad printing was used) of countries that provide comprehensive assistance to Ukraine: USA, Great Britain, Poland, Canada, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, France, Japan. European symbolism is delicately integrated, and the plot conveys a sense of a historical step and hope. The texture of the field shows noticeable relief transitions: from thin strokes to deeper areas that catch the light beautifully when the coin is turned.
Historical context
On June 23, 2022, the European Council granted Ukraine the status of a candidate country for accession to the EU — a decision that fixed the long-term course of European integration. The event became a sign of solidarity and faith in the future of Ukraine, and the symbolism of Europe on the coin emphasizes the idea of "returning home" to a common space of values.
