The coin reminds of the ability of nature to be reborn and of the fragile beauty that is important to protect. The plot and design details emphasize the theme: the commemorative coin is dedicated to the Eurasian lynx. The 30-kilometer exclusion zone and the unconditional resettlement zone, in which the Chernobyl radiation and ecological reserve has been operating since April 26, 2016.
Obverse
The obverse presents the theme through a combination of state symbols, inscriptions and a finely thought-out relief. Coin denomination – 5/HRYVEN (on the right side of the coat of arms) in the center – a symbolic wheel of life, marking the revival of nature: a stylized international sign “Radiation Threat”, wrapped in leaves, around which are animals whose populations develop in the 30-kilometer exclusion zone, which has become a kind of reserve for reproduction, in particular black storks, Przewalski's horse, lynx, bison, elk, brown bear, year of minting – 2023 (bottom) the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (in the upper part) in a circle, on the mirror surface the inscriptions: CHORNOBYL RADIATION AND ECOLOGICAL BIOSPHERE RESERVE (on the left side), CHORNOBYL RADIATION AND ECOLOGICAL BIOSPHERE RESERVE. The obverse of the coin features: a small State Emblem of Ukraine (in the upper part), the inscriptions: UKRAINE (under the emblem). The natural motif is written softly and carefully: small details create a feeling of a living touch to the landscape. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The company emblem of the NBU Banknote and Mint emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse side reveals the main image of the issue in expressive relief and multi-layered composition. The reverse of the coin shows a lynx against a landscape background (pad printing was used), above which on the left side on a mirror surface are the inscriptions: LYNX/EURASIAN LYNX in the upper part - a lynx and lynx cubs. The natural motif is written softly and carefully: small details create a feeling of a living touch to the landscape. The texture of the field shows noticeable relief transitions: from thin strokes to deeper areas that catch the light beautifully when the coin is turned.
Historical context
The coin draws attention to the natural symbols of Ukraine and the importance of protecting biodiversity. The theme of revival and caring for the environment sounds here as a gentle reminder of responsibility to future generations. It will be an appropriate gift and a warm accent to the collection.
