The coin reminds us of nature's ability to regenerate and of the fragile beauty that is important to preserve. The plot and design details emphasize the theme: dedicated to the Eurasian lynx. The 30-kilometer exclusion zone and the unconditional resettlement zone, where the Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve has been operating since April 26, 2016.
Obverse
The obverse is built as a holistic scenography, where state symbols are combined with images of the issue theme. In the center is a symbolic wheel of life, marking the rebirth of nature: a stylized international sign “Radiation Threat”, wrapped in leaves, around which are animals whose populations develop in the 30-kilometer exclusion zone, which has become a kind of reserve for reproduction, in particular, black storks, Przewalski's horse, lynx, bison, elk, brown bear. The obverse of the coin features: a small State Emblem of Ukraine (in the upper part), inscriptions: UKRAINE (under the emblem) year of minting – 2023 (below) the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (in the upper part) denomination of the coin – 5/HRYVEN (on the right side of the emblem) in a circle, on the mirror surface the inscriptions: CHORNOBYL RADIATION-ECOLOGICAL BIOSPHERE RESERVE (on the left side), CHORNOBYL RADIATION AND ECOLOGICAL BIOSPHERE RESERVE. The natural motif is written softly and carefully: small details create a feeling of living touch to the landscape. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The company emblem of the NBU Banknote and Mint emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse is the central story of the coin: the symbols are arranged so that the plot "comes to life" under different angles of light. The reverse of the coin shows a lynx against the background of the landscape (pad printing was used), above which on the left side on the mirror surface are the inscriptions: LYNX/EURASIAN LYNX in the upper part - a lynx and lynx cubs. The natural motif is written softly and carefully: small details create a feeling of living touch to the landscape. The texture of the field shows noticeable relief transitions: from thin strokes to deeper areas that catch the light beautifully when the coin is turned.
Historical context
The coin draws attention to the natural symbols of Ukraine and the importance of protecting biodiversity.
