The coin honors the power of defense and the people thanks to whom the country holds on, in a restrained and very expressive way. The plot and details of the design emphasize the theme: it is dedicated to the self-propelled artillery mount “Bohdan” – an iconic symbol of the military power and engineering skill of Ukraine.
Obverse
The obverse is built as a holistic scenography, where state symbols are combined with images of the issue theme. At the bottom in the center is the sign of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine. On the obverse of the coin, the outline of Zmiiniy Island is shown on the mirror surface, which was successfully liberated with the support of the “Bohdan” self-propelled guns. Near the island are stylized snakes leaving the territory, as a symbol of the enemy’s retreat, in the upper part of the coin is the small State Emblem of Ukraine. On the left side, on lightning-shaped zigzags that personify the power of artillery strikes, there are the inscriptions: UKRAINE (vertically), the year of minting the coin – 2025, as well as the denomination 5 and the graphic sign of the hryvnia. The plasticity of the lines and strict inscriptions give the design a sense of composure, and the plot sounds like a sign of gratitude and strength. The state emblem in the composition sets the official tone and balances the decorative elements. The corporate emblem of the NBU Banknote and Mint emphasizes the official origin of the issue.
Reverse
The reverse is dominated by a thematic motif, complemented by inscriptions and details that emphasize the idea of the issue. The dynamics of the shot convey the power of Ukrainian artillery, and in the background of the coin is the silhouette of the portrait of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, symbolizing the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian army and the historical axis that unites the past and present in the struggle for independence. The reverse of the coin shows the self-propelled artillery installation “Bohdan” at the moment of combat deployment on the steppe landscape, which emphasizes its mobility and adaptability to various combat conditions. At the bottom of the coin is the inscription “BOHDANA” self-propelled artillery installation. The plasticity of the lines and strict inscriptions give the design a sense of composure, and the plot sounds like a sign of gratitude and strength. The texture of the field shows noticeable relief transitions: from thin strokes to deeper areas that beautifully catch the light when the coin is turned.
