This commemorative coin conveys the idea of the issue through symbols, relief and an expressive composition that is a pleasure to examine. The subject and design details underscore the theme: dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Ukrainian Navy. In early 1918, the Central Rada adopted a number of important naval laws, including the "Provisional Law on the Fleet," and on 29 April 1918 the entire Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol and Crimea was officially proclaimed the fleet of the UPR. The coin belongs to the "Armed Forces of Ukraine" series.
Obverse
The obverse is built as a coherent stage design, where state emblems are combined with the maritime imagery of the issue’s theme. Reverse
The reverse reveals the main image of the issue in expressive relief and a layered composition. Against a backdrop of stylized waves is the figure 100, in whose zeros appear a wind rose (a vector diagram characterizing wind direction) and a trident placed on an anchor, flanked by the years 1918 and 2018. Above is the inscription CREATION OF THE UKRAINIAN, and below — NAVY. Careful relief and balanced fields lend the piece collector-grade expressiveness. In the texture of the field, relief transitions are visible: from fine strokes to deeper plateaus that beautifully catch the light as the coin is turned.
Historical context
The coin’s subject is tied to an event or image important to Ukrainian memory. On 29 April 1918, when the Ukrainian flag was raised over the fleet, became a holiday of the Ukrainian sea — a day when, in the words of contemporaries, "the entire Ukrainian fleet declared its belonging to the Motherland." Such issues become little "time capsules": they preserve the emotion of the moment, a cultural marker and recognizable symbolism for future generations.
